What are Joy For All Companion Pets?

Joy For All Companion Pets are interactive, animal-like companions made by Ageless Innovation. They were designed with older adults in mind. Depending on the model, they respond to touch, voice or movement with animal sounds and movements of their own. The range includes plush cats and dogs as well as the interactive Walker Squawker bird.

The animals can bring enjoyment and encourage activities or interaction with others. They do not need feeding, walks or visits to the vet. However, they still need cleaning and occasional battery changes.

Who are Joy For All Companion Pets suitable for?

The companions are primarily intended for older adults who like animals but do not want to, or cannot, keep a live pet. They can also provide a shared activity for relatives and families, or be offered as part of everyday care, for example to people with dementia.

Personal preferences are what matter: some people like cats, others dogs or birdsong. Not everyone finds sounds and movements pleasant. Watch whether the person shows interest, and respect their decision if they decline.

How do the cat, dog and Walker Squawker differ?

  • Cat: Responds to stroking with movements, meowing and purring. The purring function also produces a vibration you can feel. It can roll onto its back.
  • Dog: Responds to touch and voice, can bark, turn its head towards a sound and wag its tail. A simulated heartbeat can be felt when stroking it.
  • Walker Squawker: A small bird that responds to voice, touch, light and movement. It can be attached to a walking aid using the magnetic mount supplied, or used on its own. Depending on the version, it plays six different songs.

What size are the Joy For All products?

According to the manufacturer, the products have the following dimensions and weights (product dimensions without packaging):

  • Cat: approx. 38.7 × 22.9 × 25.7 cm, approx. 1.8 kg.
  • Dog: approx. 38.7 × 22.9 × 25.7 cm, approx. 1.8 kg.
  • Walker Squawker: approx. 10 × 5 × 8 cm, approx. 220 g.

Do the Companion Pets go into sleep mode?

Yes. After a few minutes without interaction, they enter sleep mode to conserve batteries. How you wake them up depends on the model:

  • Cat: Gently press its back.
  • Dog: Gently pat its head. The dog's face should be pointing towards you.
  • Walker Squawker: Press its tail.

Sleep mode is not a substitute for switching the animal off when it will not be used for a longer period.

How are the Companion Pets powered?

  • Cat and dog: Four 1.5-volt C-size alkaline batteries (LR14) each.
  • Walker Squawker: Three 1.5-volt AAA alkaline batteries (LR03).

According to the manufacturer, the batteries are included. The manufacturer does not recommend rechargeable batteries. Preferably use the specified alkaline batteries and follow the instructions.

Important: Do not mix old and new batteries or different battery types. Check the polarity and remove depleted batteries, as well as all batteries when the animal will not be used for a longer period. Non-rechargeable batteries must not be charged. If you use rechargeable batteries, remove them from the device before charging and charge them only under adult supervision.

How long do the batteries last?

This depends on how often and for how long you interact with the animal. The manufacturer does not specify a fixed battery life. It is therefore not possible to give a reliable estimate in days or weeks.

Switch the animal off during longer breaks. If it does not respond as usual even though it is switched on and has been woken up, check the batteries as described in the instruction manual.

Can the Companion Pets be switched off?

Yes. On the cat and dog, the switch is beneath the belly flap, which is fastened with hook-and-loop material. It has three positions, ON, MUTE and OFF: switched on, without animal sounds and switched off. In MUTE mode, the motors may still be audible, so the animal is not completely silent.

The Walker Squawker is operated differently: press its tail for about one second to switch it on, and hold it down for about three seconds to switch it off.

What is included?

According to the manufacturer, the cat and dog each come with the four C alkaline batteries required. The Walker Squawker comes with three AAA alkaline batteries and a magnetic mount for a walking aid. The Reviva product page for the bird also lists an instruction manual.

Before buying, check what is included with your chosen product. The accessories supplied may vary by model.

How do you clean the Joy For All animals?

Clean only the surface and follow the instructions supplied with your model. The manuals linked by the manufacturer for the cat, dog and Walker Squawker specify gentle wiping with a damp cloth. The cloth should be only slightly damp to prevent liquid from getting into the animal.

  • Gently wipe away any dirt and allow the surface to dry.
  • Do not use cleaning products or stain removers unless your model's instructions expressly allow them.
  • Do not soak the animal, hold it under running water or clean it in a washing machine.

For shared use: The manufacturer recommends that each person have their own animal where possible, and that hands be washed and disinfected before and after use. In care settings, use should be consistent with the hygiene plan. Establish suitable disinfection procedures and check material compatibility in advance; surface cleaning alone is not a substitute for an agreed hygiene procedure.

Do the animals shed?

Individual fur fibres may come loose from the plush cats and dogs, especially just after unpacking. According to the manufacturer, this decreases over time. Before first use, you can gently remove loose fibres with a soft brush or lint roller.

Are Joy For All Companion Pets just toys?

They are electronic, interactive animal companions designed specifically with older adults in mind. They invite people to stroke them, watch them and spend time with them together. Their value in everyday life depends on whether the individual enjoys them.

They do not replace personal attention or medical or therapeutic care. No specific effect is guaranteed.

Why choose a Joy For All Companion Pet?

If the person likes animals and is interested in an interactive companion, it can:

  • bring enjoyment and provide an everyday activity,
  • encourage conversations about animals or personal memories,
  • offer a shared activity with relatives, children or grandchildren.

Unlike a live pet, it does not need food or visits to the vet. However, it is not a substitute for a real animal or human contact.

What materials are the animals made of?

According to the manufacturer, the fur of the plush cats and dogs is made of polyester and acrylic; the materials used are synthetic. It is not real animal fur.

This does not mean that the products can generally be considered allergy-free. If the person has known sensitivities to materials, check whether the specific model is suitable before buying.

What should you bear in mind when offering one to a person with dementia?

Offer the animal without putting pressure on the person, for example by asking: "Would you like to stroke the cat?" Give them time and, if needed, demonstrate one function. Their response matters more than trying out every function.

If the sounds or movements are unpleasant, you can start by using MUTE mode on the cat and dog, or switch the animal off. If the person declines or shows discomfort, stop offering it. The companion is a possible activity, not a treatment for dementia.

Are the Companion Pets suitable as gifts?

Yes, if the model suits the recipient's interests and preferences. Consider, for example, whether they like cats, dogs or birdsong. If possible, try an animal together before deciding.

Also consider its weight, sounds, battery changes and cleaning. A brief introduction to the switch and sleep mode can make getting started easier.

What can I do if the animal does not respond?

  1. Check that it is switched on. On the cat and dog, MUTE turns off the animal sounds.
  2. Wake it up as described under Sleep mode.
  3. Switch it off and back on.
  4. Check the batteries and, if necessary, replace the full set with new batteries of the specified type.

What safety precautions are important?

Do not place the cat or dog on the floor or in walkways: they can be a trip hazard. When not in use, keep them on a suitable raised surface. Also follow the age guidance and safety instructions on the packaging and in the manual; the linked manufacturer manuals label the models as suitable for ages five and over. They are not suitable for toddlers.

For the Walker Squawker: The mount contains a magnet. According to the instructions, the magnetic attachment must be kept at least 15 cm away from medical devices. If such a device is used, check its safety instructions in advance to establish whether use is safe. The attachment must not interfere with the operation of the walking aid.

The bird's songs are a playful feature, not a reliable safety or reminder function for using a walking aid.
